Acrux sculpture
The college's Acrux sculpture was created by Dr Lenton Parr AM, founding director and principal of the Victorian College of the Arts and a noted Australian sculptor.
After eight years in the Royal Australian Air Force, Lenton enrolled as a sculpture student at the Melbourne Technical College (now RMIT University) and later travelled to England and worked as an assistant to the famous sculptor Henry Moore. The sculpture is named after the brightest star in the Southern Cross. It was the gift of Pharmaceutical Defence Ltd to the college in its centenary year and donated in memory of Ernest Braithwaite, chairman of Pharmaceutical Defence Ltd for 22 years. The Premier of Victoria, Rupert Hamer, unveiled the sculpture and delivered the centenary address on 18 March 1981.
