Intersearch

Intersearch is a graduate research program conducted at the international level by the USA and Australia through the University of Kansas and the college.

In 1970 Nigel Manning, dean 1963 to 1978 and Takeru Higuchi, a renowned professor from the University of Kansas, established the Intersearch program, which has become a highly productive link between the two institutions. The program has since been renamed the Takeru Higuchi – Nigel Manning Intersearch Program, in honour of its founders.

The occasional joint program grants a graduate student of excellent quality, from either institution, admission to either campus for at least 12 months. Students undertaking the program engage in intensive training in research methodology within the PhD course and also benefit from the international experience. The training is suitable to the needs of the pharmaceutical industry and institutions of higher learning in both countries.

The program has trained several academic staff who are currently working at universities around the world. Bill Charman (1982–85) and Barry Reed (1971–75), participants in the program, are now senior academics at the college.

Colin Chapman, dean of the college, acts as Australian secretary for the executive committee of Intersearch.
