Swish 08: Your farewell party! The Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences congratulated its final year undergraduate students on Friday 14 November, at Swish 08, the faculty’s official farewell party. Instead of the familiar teaching spaces, students were welcomed into an Arabian night complete with a genie, palm trees and a camel! “The hall looked fantastic. It was wonderful to be able to get together with everyone one last time after exams” Julia Gilmartin, fourth year Bachelor of Pharmacy student. The Victorian College of Pharmacy Foundation hosted the evening and faculty staff, industry representatives, family and friends came together to celebrate the end of their final exams. Alistair Lloyd, AO, chair of the foundation urged students to stay connected with Monash University and to give back to their professions. “Tonight is an opportunity to celebrate with your class mates who will now form part of your network of supports as you enter into your profession. I hope, like me, you will remain proud of your link to this leading institution and continue to engage with faculty, and assist it to remain at the forefront of research and education” Mr Lloyd. A highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Student Community Achievement Award. Recipients of this award have made significant contribution to student life at the college during their undergraduate degree and are peer nominated. The following students were recognised for their contributions; Boon Phiaw Khoo, Thomas Yu, Stephanie Chau, Ben Kang and Adrian Lo were recognised. Each year an outstanding community achievement award is also presented; in 2008 there were two recipients, Matthew Loft and Mark McGinnis. According to his nomination Matthew has always shown a love for Monash Parkville. A fourth year Bachelor of Pharmacy student, Matthew has engaged with the student pharmacy associations at a university, national and international level. Mark has dedicated his time to ensuring the success of the Monash Parkville Student Association (MPSA) and has made a notable contribution to the ongoing success of this important organisation. As President in 2007 Mark managed the many demands of this high profile role while still cooking BBQ’s occasionally. The night was a huge success with lots of photo opportunities and chances to celebrate as students move into the next phase of their lives. Swish is part of the 2008 Student Enhancement Program
