Honours Degree of Bachelor of Medicinal ChemistryCourse code: 3463 (Parkville Campus) Entry RequirementsThe prerequisite for entry to the Honours Degree of the Bachelor of Medicinal Chemistry is a bachelor degree in Medicinal Chemistry or other related field with an average overall credit grade or higher in the final year of the course, or equivalent qualifications and experience deemed by the faculty Research Training Committee to be suitable preparation for the candidate’s proposed field of study. Applications for the Honours degree of the Bachelor of Medicinal Chemistry will only be accepted by current students or recent graduates of Bachelor of Medicinal Chemistry (or compatible Bachelor degrees from other universities). All other applicants must enrol in the Honours Degree of Pharmaceutical Science. Course StructureThe honours degree consists of 25% coursework and 75% supervised research. The Bachelor of Medicinal Chemistry (Honours) degree aims to provide students with a higher level of experience in independent analysis and research in the area of Medicinal Chemistry. The coursework component includes a non-assessable induction program followed by several weeks of assessable coursework taught jointly at Clayton and Parkville. Students will choose at least two courses from each campus in conjunction with their supervisor, with one being a core unit. The coursework component is designed to support the student’s research project. The supervised research component of the course will be assessed on the basis of a written thesis which incorporates a literature review and seminars/oral presentations. Joint supervision across faculties and campuses is available, and a limited portion of the research work may be undertaken at an external institution or industrial laboratory with the permission of the B.Med.Chem.
