Course Director

Bill Suen

Director, Pharmacy Management Program
B Pharm, BHA, MBA

Bill graduated at the Victorian College of Pharmacy (Monash University) before obtaining other qualifications in management and health administration by part time distance education.  He has had a wide range of senior management experience in both the public and the private sectors. 

Key pharmacy management positions held include General Manager (Slade Pharmacy and Medical Group), Director of Pharmacy Service (Western Health Care Network), Pharmacy Manager (Terry White Chemist, The Glen). In addition, Mr Suen also has had corporate management experience as the General Manager of PJA Computer Consultants Pty Ltd., a leading pathology and laboratory software development company in Australia.  He is currently the proprietor of Miller Gilbert Pharmacy, and a director and principal consultant of the Pharmaceutical Business Solution Pty Ltd.

Irene Powell

BA (Honours) Strathclyde MA (Communications) Monash Irene has more than 25 years experience in marketing, marketing communication and marketing education. She worked in the dairy industry in the UK with responsiblility for a range of dairy products with a communication budget worth several million pounds. She has also managed an advertising agency. Irene has been awarded the Vice-Chancellors Award for Excellence in Team Based Educational Development (2000)and the Business/Higher Education Round Table Award for Outstanding Achievement in Collaboration (2001). Irene is Course Director for two post-graduate courses the departments flag ship brand Master of Marketing and the innovative Graduate Certificate in Media Sales. Irene has an interest in on-line education. She has developed an interactive CD-ROM for integrated marketing communication.

Tim Lyons

Assistant Professor, IESEG Business School, Lille

Tim is currently running his own international consulting/training business in Australia, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Japan, Indonesia, Singapore and China.

Prior to this he has held a number of general management, sales and marketing executive positions in the media and retailing industries.  He was previously the course director of B Bus- Marketing at Monash, and has taught on a wide range of academic programs including:

Andrew Cavanagh

B.Economics (Monash), B.Th (Honours)

Andrew is currently a key member of the academic team at the Australian Centre for Retail Studies (ACRS) after 20 years working for Coles Myer Ltd. After an initial period as a trainee in stores Andrew moved into the Buying Office for Furniture as a National Buyer for Outdoor and Occasional Furniture. He then moved to Miss Shop as a Merchandiser. This was followed by time spent liaising between Buying and IT on the development of systems to support the buying function. After 5 years he moved back to MGB as a merchandiser in Womenswear and then into the Organisational Development area. Andrew's responsibilities at the ACRS include coordinating, designing and facilitating the Retail Buying and Finance Programs for both the in-company and public streams.

 

Helen Dimitriou

B Pharm, Grad Dip Management, MBA

Helen is a qualified pharmacist with over 10 years’ experience in the pharmaceutical and health sector.   During the past four years, Helen has been working as a consultant providing companies with a range of services including medical communications, medical information and general pharmaceutical consulting.  Prior to this, Helen has held a number of positions in the pharmaceutical industry, with her most recent position being Medical Information Manager at GlaxoSmithKline.   Helen’s expertise spans medical marketing, medical information,   pharmacovigilance, training, sales and marketing and general consulting.  Helen also continues to practise as a retail pharmacist which allows her to understand the impact of communications on the customer. 

 

Kim Magner

B Pharm, Dip Train. & Assess.

Kim is a qualified pharmacist with nearly twenty years’ experience in the pharmaceutical industry. Her focus has been in the medical-marketing interface, where clinical evidence is used to communicate the benefits of a product. Kim’s experience in this area includes training of pharmaceutical sales representatives, medical communications to healthcare professionals and management of Phase III/IV clinical trials. Kim had broad-based experience at Bristol-Myers Squibb, including senior manager roles with the Medical Department. In the last three years, Kim has drawn on her expertise and consulted to both small and large companies in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology sectors. She continues to practise as a Home Medicines Review pharmacist and is a trainer with the Pharmacy Guild (Victoria).
