Higher degrees by research programs

The faculty offers research programs in areas involved with the design, development, evaluation and testing of new drugs and drug formulations. Research programs are also available in formulation science. Research students are supervised by members of staff who are leading international experts in the field.

Both the research conducted at the faculty and its research graduates are highly regarded within Australia and internationally. The faculty has established a solid reputation with industry in contract-based research, both nationally and internationally, and acts as a resource for industry and research institutes involved in the pharmaceutical and medical sciences.

The course tuition fee in 2007 for domestic students enrolled in the MPhSci and PhD degrees is AUD $24,050 per annum and for international students $27,160 per annum.

International students will also need to obtain Overseas Health Insurance Cover

Research based programs available at the faculty:

  • Master of Pharmaceutical Science – You will need to have qualified for a Bachelors degree in pharmacy or other relevant field with Honours level of H1 or HIIA or equivalent from Monash University or other recognised tertiary institution. Masters by Research students may take up to two years to complete on a full-time basis (up to four years part-time). Application form (pdf 56kb) 
  • PhD – You will need to have qualified for a research masters degree with a significant research component in the relevant field, or a Bachelors degree in the relevant field with Honours level of H1 or HIIA or equivalent from Monash University or other recognised tertiary institution. PhD students may take up to four years to complete on a full-time basis (up to eight years part time).

Applications and enrolments can occur any time during the year, however applications for centrally allocated scholarships close on 31 October each year. The faculty conducts Honours programs which have a substantial research component and also serve as excellent preparation for further study and research for graduates who do not hold an Honours degree and wish to progress to a Masters by Research or PhD.

Fees for 100% Research based programs:

If you are an Australian citizen, permanent resident or New Zealand citizen, your tuition fees will be funded by the Research Training Scheme (RTS). The RTS is a government scheme which funds tuition fees for Master of Pharmaceutical Science students for two years (four years part time) and four years for PhD students (eight years part time).
