Department of Medicinal Chemistry

The Department of Medicinal Chemistry is one of four departments at the Victorian College of Pharmacy. The Department is responsible for teaching undergraduate units in the Bachelor of Pharmacy and Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Science.

The Department has a long history of successful research in pharmaceutical sciences, including a key role in the development of the anti-influenza drug, Relenza™. Current research areas include structural chemistry/biology, computer-aided molecular design and computational chemistry as well as synthesis and characterization of bioactive molecules. Theses research activities are supported by modern facilities including high field NMR spectroscopy, electrospray mass spectrometry, X-ray diffraction, HPLC and computational chemistry facilities.
