Pharmace - PBS
This module aims to provide knowledge of the legislation pertaining to the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) and the ability to make correct supply of PBS medicine. The prescribers and suppliers of PBS medicine are integral to this process.
It has been found from routine audits of pharmacy claims by the Program Review Branch of Medicare Australia, that there is an increase in non-compliance to the legislative requirements for payment under the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme.
An example of non-compliance by prescribers is prescribing the same pharmaceutical benefit item for the same patient on the same day. Areas of non-compliance by suppliers include the supply of authority items without prior approval and supply of a PBS prescription written on the same day for the same patient by the same prescriber.
This module offers a systematic review of legislation relating to the supply of PBS medicine and helps you to develop the necessary skills to record, supply and receipt PBS medicine in accordance with the legislation.
This project is a partnership between Medicare Australia and the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences.
