Profile

Geoff Sussman is a pharmacist with over twenty years experience as a senior director of pharmacy in a major metropolitan teaching hospital. He has been involved in tissue repair and wound management for over 30 years having under taken clinical research and product evaluation. He has trained in a number of major centers for wound management overseas, and has presented and published many articles on the topic. He is a visiting consultant at two wound clinics in Melbourne.

He is a fellow of the Pharmaceutical Society, The Australian Institute of Pharmacy Management, The Australian faculty of Pharmacy and is one of the inaugural fellows of the Australian Wound management Association.

He lecturers on wound management to Pharmacy, Medicine, Physiotherapy, Nursing, and Sports Medicine. He is an Associate of the National Ageing Research Institute with whom he is undertaking research in the area of chronic wounds. He is also involved in collaborative research with the school of Veterinary Medicine Melbourne University.

He is Chairman of the advisory committee on post graduate wound care education and is on the Course advisory committee Hospital Pharmacy Technician course at V.U.T. He is a Co-founder of the Wound Foundation of Australia Ltd and was the president of the Australian Wound Management Association. He is an editorial executive of the International Wound Journal, a member of the editorial board of Primary Intention the journal of that association and the editorial Wound Care Network.

He was awarded the Glaxo research award in 1979 for his work on the stability of certain drugs in single disposable syringes. He was also awarded the David Bull Laboratories Travel award in 1991.
He received the Comfeel literary awards with Peter Aris for the best original research paper published in Primary Intention in 2000 and also with Dr Patricia Terrill and M Bailey for the best original research paper published in Primary Intention in 2003.

He was awarded the Australian Pharmacy Practice Foundation Medal of Excellence, 1998. The Australian Sports Medal Australian Sports Medal in 2001 and was awarded the Centenary Medal in 2003. 

He was award an OAM in the Queens Birthday Honors 2006 for his contribution to Pharmacy, Multidisciplinary Wound Care as a clinician, researcher and educator and for the sports of Diving and Gymnastics.
