Monash & King's Pharmacy Education Symposium 2007Teaching for multidisciplinary practice9-11 July, Prato, ItalyFifty-six delegates representing seven countries attended the 2007 Symposium. Speakers presented arguments for and against educating pharmacists alongside other healthcare professionals, and detailed programs where multidisciplinary education had been undertaken, both in rural and urban environments. Listen to and view the Symposium presentations. Delegates from hospital, academic and community pharmacy heard from speakers who had integrated interprofessional learning into their courses in a variety of ways. To stimulate debate, participants were also provided with a thought-provoking alternative view. Invited speakers shared perspectives on the challenges surrounding interprofessional learning: their experiences of the benefits, the pitfalls, what works and what doesn’t work. The social aspects – the lunches and the Symposium dinner, combined with other enjoyable restaurant meals over a glass of Italian wine – helped make this Symposium a delightful experience. An enjoyable diversion from the education program was the presence of Tom Mole, Artist-in-Residence. Tom sketched and painted water colours of poignant Prato aspects, and these were made available for delegates to purchase. Ideas were also discussed for the 2009 Symposium on Fitness to Practice: Competency-based Teaching and Learning in Pharmacy. 2009 Symposium updates: send your email address to receive electronic updates. |
