Gemma
Degree: Bachelor of Pharmacy
Year: Third
An interesting fact about me: All my life I have lived in the small town of Creswick. Creswick is located about 15 minutes from Ballarat and 1 1/2 hours from Melbourne. In my first year of uni lived in a faculty. faculty has been a great place to live, as there is a chance to be independent, but there is also a large support network and there is always someone to talk to.
I chose my degree because.. I don't exactly know what first attracted me to pharmacy. I woke up one morning and thought "I want to be a pharmacist", just like a young child (except that I was 14!!!). I do, however, know what made that attraction stick. At the end of year 10, I began working in a pharmacy and loved it.
I chose to study at the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences for two main reasons - firstly, the emphasis on rural pharmacy. The rural entry scheme and the rural scholarships are a great way of encouraging rural students to study pharmacy. The faculty also has a great reputation, in both teaching and research.
I believe that the best thing about being a pharmacist will be knowing that I am helping the community. I’m planning on going back to a rural area after I graduate, as I love the atmosphere of smaller towns, and it’s what I’m use to.
I am a member of Wildfire, which promotes the importance of rural pharmacy
