Eric, Third year Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Science
The Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Science is a fairly new course. It has two major areas of study, Medicinal Chemistry and Formulation Science. I am studying Medicinal chemistry which is built heavily on chemistry and minor components of biology. In addition to this it is designed for pharmaceutical research. This is what convinced me into choosing this course because my interests were pharmaceutics and chemistry.
In the three years that I have been enrolled in this course I have developed detail knowledge of drug development and research. Each passing week my knowledge of drug synthesis increases because of my favorite subject, synthetic chemistry. This knowledge came into practical use when I completed my third year research project. The research project gives great opportunities for the future as it is recognized as individual research, which is respected by research companies.
Hopefully when I finish this course I will be doing honors project and afterwards a PHD. I hope to achieve this because in the far future I would like to lecture and research at the same time, like the lecturers at Victorian College of Pharmacy.
Medicinal chemistry was definitely a good choice for me to extend my knowledge in chemistry and pharmaceutics and I think it’s a great opportunity for other chemistry enthusiasts like myself.
