UMAT

All applicants for Bachelor of Pharmacy and Bachelor of Pharmacy/Commerce (except international students*) must complete the UMAT.

The UMAT is held once per year in July.  Students who wish to be considered for entry in 2009, must register and sit the UMAT. For further information, please consult www.acer.edu.au/umat.

The UMAT exam is conducted by ACER (Australian Council for Educational Research), the purpose of the UMAT is: "to assess abilities in a range of general skills and personal attributes. UMAT measures skills acquired over a period of time, including the ability to reason, make logical deductions and form judgments. The test does not draw on any particular body of knowledge or curriculum." (ACER website)

The Victorian College of Pharmacy recognises that pharmacists must be excellent communicators and be committed to optimising healthcare outcomes for patients. The introduction of the UMAT will assist the selection process for students entering the Bachelor of Pharmacy who will not only be academically proficient but will also posses more career-orientated skills.

How will the faculty use my UMAT score?

Students will be admitted to the Bachelor of Pharmacy based on results in prerequisite studies, UMAT score and ENTER. Each UMAT booklet will be equally weighted.

*International students do not have to sit the UMAT unless they are expecting to change to Australian permanent residency prior to the year of admission.
