faculty alumnus awarded Monash University Distinguished Alumni Service Award
30 May 2008Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences alumnus and Chair of its Foundation, Mr Alistair Lloyd AO RFD ED (PhC 1956), was last night awarded Monash University’s Distinguished Service Alumni Award at the University’s 50th Anniversary Gala Dinner. Mr Lloyd along with Mr John Sturdy a graduate from the faculty of Business and Economics were joint recipients of the award. The Distinguished Alumni Service Award recognises an “individual’s contribution to Monash University through the participation in alumni and University activities, student engagement, promotion of Monash in the broader community and/or strengthening of alumni communities”. "I am delighted and honoured to receive this important award. I have always been proud of my qualification from the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. In my lifetime, the faculty has made enormous advances in pharmacy education and research. It therefore gives me great pleasure to continue to do what I can to support its development as a world renowned centre of pharmaceutical education and science” said Mr Lloyd. From 1961 until his professional retirement in 1998, Mr Lloyd served on various faculty managing bodies and was a major advocate for the faculty’s merge with Monash University in 1992. “The award is also a recognition of how successful and mutually beneficial the amalgamation of the faculty and Monash University has been. It shows how the University has fully accepted the faculty as an integral part of its success." Mr Lloyd’s commitment to forging the bonds between the faculty and its alumni networks began in 2001, when Mr Lloyd together with the late Mr Neil Naismith (PhC 1958), Mr John Ware OAM (PhC 1950) and dean at the time Professor Colin Chapman (BPharm 1970) established the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences Foundation. The Foundation was created to ensure that the faculty and its alumni had a life-long relationship and to see that the faculty had the financial means to continue providing world-class teaching and research. Having chaired the Foundation since its inception, Mr Lloyd has been the catalyst for many of the faculty’s highly successful alumni and student engagement events and activities. “I am privileged to have the opportunity to work along side Alistair Lloyd. He is pharmacy’s Don Bradman – his tireless efforts and contributions have made our faculty, Foundation and alumni networks the strong and vibrant programs they are today”, said faculty dean Professor Bill Charman.
