ARC Grants
ARC linkage equipment infrastructure and facilites grants.
Success with an 2007 ARC LIEF (Linkage infrastructure equipment and facilities grant) of $100,000 has been recently announced for Professor Peter Stewart and Dr. Ian Larson (Department of Pharmaceutics) in collaboration with researchers from the administering institution of the grant; the University of Sydney. Their project “State of the art high resolution thermal analysis suite for the life and material sciences” will strengthen the already existing infrastructures at both institutions, enhancing the understanding of intrinsic physico-chemical characterisation of various materials, and will benefit the community through characterising functional nanomaterials for high-tech technologies, and use of inhalation aerosol drug delivery to benefit patients with respiratory diseases for improved therapeutics health outcomes.
Success with an 2007 ARC LIEF (Linkage infrastructure equipment and facilities grant) of $304,000 has also been recently announced for A/Prof Ossama El-Kabbani, Professor Peter J Scammells, Dr. Philip E Thompson and Dr. Jamie S. Simpson of the Department of Medicinal Chemistry, Dr. Richard J. Prankerd (Department of Pharmaceutics) and Dr. Jalal Jazayeri (Department of Pharmaceutical Biology), in collaboration with researchers from the administering institution of the grant; the University of Melbourne. Their project “X-ray Molecular Structure Elucidation facility (MSEF)” will support X-ray diffraction and its key role in identification and molecular characterization. X-ray techniques are the single most widely used analytical resource in structure determination and provide invaluable information for scientists working in the fields of synthesis, nanotechnology, polymer chemistry and protein chemistry. This facility brings together a multidisciplinary team of scientists and provides state of the art research and training facilities.
