New Dean for the Victorian College of Pharmacy

Professor Colin Chapman, Dean of the Victorian College of Pharmacy has elected to not seek re-appointment as Dean and his term will conclude at the end of this year.
At its recent meeting Council approved a recommendation that Professor William (Bill) Charman be offered appointment as Dean of the Victorian College of Pharmacy from 1 January 2007, and Professor Charman has accepted this offer of appointment.
Professor Charman commenced his academic career at the Victorian College of Pharmacy in 1989, shortly after the completion of his doctorate at the University of Kansas and a number of years working in the pharmaceutical industry in the USA. Since this time, he has published prolifically, authoring or co-authoring more than 320 scientific papers and communications. He is an Associate Editor of the Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences and is a member of four international editorial boards. Professor Charman has taught in both the undergraduate and postgraduate programs at the Victorian College of Pharmacy.
Professor Charman has received numerous awards throughout his career, major awards include the GlaxoWellcome International Achievement Award in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain, the Drug Discovery Project of the Year Award from the Medicines for Malaria Venture, the Australasian Pharmaceutical Sciences Association Medal and the Controlled Release Society International Career Achievement in Oral Drug Delivery Award. Professor Charman has been recognised as a Fellow of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists.
The university has been fortunate to secure the appointment of such an outstanding academic leader as Dean.
