Formulation science
Formulation science is a discipline that involves the development of products in a wide range of fields including the pharmaceutical, food, cosmetic, surface coatings and consumer product industries. It is strongly based in the chemical and biological sciences and possesses a unique applied science stream related to formulation and product development.
Currently, research in the formulation science area is related to colloidal systems with focus on micro-emulsions, nano-particulate systems, lipid based formulation design and general multiphase systems. In addition, formulation science research includes studies in physico-chemical and analytical characterisation of actives and excipients and includes projects utilising micro-calorimetry, atomic force microscopy, surface analysis of solids, solubility and permeability assessment and particle size characterisation.
