Victorian College of Pharmacy Research

Structural biology

Structural biology involves determining the structures of biomolecules and aims to provide an understanding of biological processes at the molecular level. High resolution structures of biomolecules provide insights into the mechanisms by which they act. The objective of the structural biology group at the Victorian College of Pharmacy is to use information gained from high resolution structures to better understand the role that proteins and other biomolecules play in disease pathways, to provide structural information to guide drug discovery and to investigate the structures of drug-protein complexes.

Research at the Victorian College of Pharmacy is focussed on:

  • The use of structural information to guide drug design
  • Drug protein interactions
  • The structure of medically important proteins
