Ambassador Program

The student ambassador program offers a host of opportunities for skill and career development, which can allow you to stand out to future employers.  Student ambassadors will also have the chance to to represent and promote the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at a variety of future student, current student, alumni and industry events.

Program features

  • Training and skill development program (see table 1)
  • Professional guidance. Ambassadors will be paired with faculty Alumni, and encouraged to meet with them regularly. This mentor will provide you with insight into your chosen field, career advice and most importantly serve as an important industry contact
  • Opportunities to network with industry representatives and potential employers while representing the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences
  • Certificate of appreciation from the dean
  • Priority for any paid casual work through the faculty
  • Priority for positions in the Orientation Mentor Program and the Open Day Ambassador Program
  • Opportunities to support your University and represent the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences

Effective communication is necessary and assertiveness training will assist you in standing up for yourself whilst allowing others to stand up for themselves.

Team Sailing Practice the team and leadership skills from the Future Leaders Program in a physically and emotionally challenging environment. Ambassador Responsibilities

As a student ambassador you will be called upon to:

  • Share your university experiences with future students, alumni and donors
  • Host events
  • Participate in events such as Open Day, Change of preference day, information evenings and Foundation events.
  • Take part in the "Ask a current student" program which responds to email enquiries from prospective students
  • Positively promote the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences

Students failing to meet the requirements of the program may have access to program benefits limited.

Time Commitments

Student ambassador duties will be conducted outside of class time and ambassadors will not be expected or encouraged to miss any classes.  Student ambassadors will be expected to attend: 

  • Training workshops (see table 1)
  • At least three faculty or alumni events each semester 
  • "At Monash", 6.00pm Thursday 13 May
  • Open Day, Saturday 2 August
  • Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences Chemistry Challenge 1 October
  • Swish 14 November

Student ambassadors hold their position for one year and may be required to assist with enrolment day in late February.

Senior ambassador

Senior ambassadors positions are open to students who have participated in the Ambassador program in the past.  Senior ambassadors will have the responsibilities of an Ambassador but may also be asked to attend a school visit to talk about their experience at the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. For details of the Senior Ambassador training program see table 1. In addition to this they will enjoy all the benefits of an Ambassador.

Who can apply?

All undergraduate students who have teaching hours at Monash University Parkville campus are eligible to apply. Ambassadors will be selected to represent the Bachelors of Pharmaceutical Science or Engineering/Pharmaceutical Science and the Bachelors of Pharmacy or Pharmacy/Commerce.

Students who have previously been Ambassadors can apply for the Senior Ambassador program.

Applications

Approximately fifteen students, across the two degrees will be admitted into the Student Ambassador Program in 2008.

Applicants may be required to undertake a 'Working with Children' check.

Applicants should have the capacity to promote the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, have a credit average and be able to demonstrate skills in the following areas:

• Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills suitable for working with committees and people at all levels within the university and student body

• Demonstrated organisational and time-management skills

• Demonstrated involvement with and contribution to the Victorian Collage of Pharmacy Community or your school or local community

• Involvement in extra curricula activities including but not limited to sport, theatre, dance, music, scouts etc

Selection will be based on a combination of applications and group interviews.

Early applications for the 2008 Student Ambassador Program will close at 5.00pm on 11 March, 2008.

All successful applications will be required to attend the induction and Future Leaders Program from 9.00 - 5.00pm on the 27 and 28 of March at the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences.
