2.0 Course Progression rules
2.1 [As per Section1.1] In the 1st , 2nd and 3rd year of the program, a student may complete a FULL YEAR of candidature [48 EFTSL] , regardless of their Semester One results.
2.2. The standard course completion quota (SLE Student Learning Entitlement) allowance for this program is (5 years full time).
2.3 1st Year course progession rules:
2.3.1 A student must enrol and complete the following units in first year (subject to any advanced standing awarded due to previous studies).
oCHM1011 Chemistry (Sem 1)
o BIO1011 Biology (Sem 1)
o STA1010 Statistical Methods (Sem 1)
o Elective Unit (6 Credit points) (Sem 1)
o BMC1021 Introduction to Medicinal Chemistry (Sem 2)
o CHM1022 Chemistry (Sem 2)
o BIO1022 Biology (Sem 2)
o Elective unit (6 Credit points) Sem 2
2.3.2 A student may progress into the 2nd year of the program provided they enrol, complete and pass the compulsory units of CHM1011, BIO1011, STA1010, BMC1021, CHM1022, BIO1022.
2.3.3 1st year Elective units [worth 12 credit points] may be repeated in subsequent years of the program (in the 3rd [or an additional semester in a 4th year, if necessary] of candidature through pre-arrangement with the Pharmacy faculty Office and the Course Director.)
2.4 2nd year course progression rules:
2.4.1 A student must enrol and complete the following compulsory units in second year (subject to any advanced standing awarded due to previous studies).
o BMC2021 Synthetic Chemistry A
o BMC2032 Biomolecules Structure and Function
o BMC2042 Analytical Methods
o BMC2071 Toxicology
o BMC2022 Synthetic Chemistry B
o BMC2050 Computational Chemistry
o BMC2080 Introduction to Spectroscopy
o BMC2101 Drug Formulation and Delivery
2.4.2 A student may progress into the 3rd year of the program provided they enrol, complete and pass ALL of the compulsory units in 2nd year.
2.5 Repeating Units
2.5.1 A student may be permitted to repeat a unit at the discretion of the Board of Examiners.
2.5.2 Should a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP – formerly HECS) or a FULL FEE candidate show cause, and be permitted by the Board of Examiners and/or the Academic Progress Committee, to repeat a unit for a third time, the student will be charged the FULL FEE amount for re-enrolment into this individual unit. International students can repeat a unit, once only, if enrolled part time and they are enrolled in their final semester of study in 3rd year. International students are advised to contact the Pharmacy faculty Office to comply with visa regulations under the ESOS act should this situation arise for them.
2.5.3 A candidate may only be permitted to progress into subsequent years of the program, provided they fully meet unit (Section 1.0) and course (Section 2.0) pre-requisite guidelines for each year level, detailed above.
2.5.4 At the discretion of the Board of Examiners or the Academic Progress Committee, a candidate may be permitted to progress into subsequent years of the course, completing hybrid combinations of 1st, 2nd and 3rd year units, part time enrolment patterns and other permutations of individual study patterns, including cross-campus enrolment arrangements (timetable permitting). Only exceptional cases will be considered and such cases will be individually assessed through the Pharmacy faculty Office.
3.0 Supplementary Examinations
3.1 Supplementary examinations will not be granted for the Bachelor of Medicinal Chemistry from 2007.
4.0 Near Passes (NP)
4.1 At the discretion of the Board of Examiners, a student may be awarded only (1) near pass (NP) for a unit final result between 45 – 49 within each semester of candidature. The allocation of a near pass NP is subject to an overall review of the candidates' entire unit results across the semester.
4.2 Unit results of 44 or below will normally be deemed a FAIL (N) and at the discretion of the Board of Examiners, this would usually require the student to repeat the unit, or alternatively, be referred to the Academic Progress Committee for review.
5.0 Examination papers
5.1 Freedom of Information requirements allows students to view their marked examination scripts if they request to do so. Please be aware that access can be denied, to their script, if the examination is a short answer or multiple choice format that the examiner may use again.
5.2 Examination script books are routinely destroyed six months after publication of results.
5.3 Students in 1st year Bachelor of Medicinal Chemistry may approach unit coordinators for feedback on their performance in examinations. Please apply through the department or school office of your unit, where they may be given an opportunity to read through their scripts. Procedures for viewing scripts vary between schools, departments and faculties of the University, so students should take this into consideration.
5.4 Students in the 2nd and 3rd year of the Bachelor of Medicinal Chemistry may approach unit coordinators for feedback on their performance in examinations and to view their scripts. Please discuss any results queries, in the first instance, with the Unit Coordinator before proceeding to the Pharmacy faculty Office.
